Mooc: “Climate change in school media”
What is a MOOC?
The acronym stands for Massive Online Open Course. It is a free online course, open to people from anywhere in the world and allows the trainee to autonomously manage the number of hours dedicated to his/her study. It is a type of course that does not impose strict deadlines for the submission of papers; the student may complete all the activities requested until the last day of the course.
Goal of the MOOC “Climate change in school media”
To assist teachers in science and media areas in developing skills for the teaching of content about climate change in the classroom, using the media.
Who can register?
All interested in the areas of climate change and media or other related subjects, mainly teachers.
The course consists of five modules that combine climate change science and media, and two additional modules: the introduction and the conclusion.
MOOC begins on October 5th, 2015 and will run for five weeks (until October 25th, 2015, with an extra week for consultation of materials and completion of any delayed activity).
All tasks have to be completed by November 14th, 2015. However, each of the modules will be released weekly. The only task that has an established deadline for completion is peer review, which is launched in the first module, and should be submitted by October 25th, 2015. Later, the proposed task should be evaluated by two colleagues until November 8th, 2015.
MOOC is housed on the online platform Miríada X.
There are three options.
It will be issued by Miríada X, it is free and will be sent by email to the trainee that obtains at least an average of 75% in terms of percentage obtained in the course modules.
It will be issued by Miríada X at the request of the trainee that completes all mandatory activities and has an additional cost of €40 (VAT included).
The trainee must attend a five-hour face-to-face session (scheduled for November 14th, 2015), in which he/she will present an individual reflection report on the course and assess the workshop.
