The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), named “Climate change in school media”, is free and allows for an autonomous time management by the participants. Registration is now open .
Clima@EduMedia, a project developed at the University of Porto, launched the MOOC “Climate change in school media” which will begin on the 5th of October, 2015, on the digital platform Miríada X.
The course is focused on the use of media to teach climate change in the classroom. It is open to anyone, though particularly designed for primary and secondary schoolteachers in the area of Sciences and for school media coordinators.
José Azevedo, coordinator of Clima@EduMedia, states that “the MOOC aims at providing teachers with the skills that enable them to teach climate change-related content, namely causes, impacts and ways to mitigate and adapt to these changes, in a more appealing way and through the use of the media”. Basically, he adds, “its intent is to show teachers that it is possible to innovate in the teaching of science, exploring the different possibilities that each medium offers”.
The course has the duration of five weeks (until November, 8th) and allows the trainee to independently manage the number of hours dedicated to his/her study. In addition, it does not impose strict deadlines for the submission of papers.
The MOOC is accredited by the Scientific and Pedagogical Council for Continuing Education with one credit. On 14th of November, a face to face session will be held for trainees who wish accreditation.
The MOOC’s web page (on this website) offers detailed information on the course and guidelines for the registration process.
