conferences on climate change
Published on the 29th of March, 2016
Called “Climate Live”, these conferences will enable teachers and students of Portuguese schools of the 3rd cycle of basic and secondary education to interact with experts on climate change.
The relationship between biodiversity, water and climate change is the topic under discussion in the two conferences that will be broadcasted via live streaming by Clima@EduMedia to several schools in the country.
The lectures take place on the 6th of April (Wednesday) and the 15th of April (Friday) 2016, from 11 A.M to 12 P.M, and aim at allowing experts and students to interact in real time.
Biodiversity will be analysed on the 6th of April. Ana Margarida Faria, a Ph.D. in Marine Ecology, and Pedro Pinho, a researcher at the Environmental Biology Centre based at the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon University (FCUL- Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa), will discuss the consequences of climate change on marine ecosystems and on the flora and the national fauna, respectively.
On the 15th of April, Ana Neves, graduate and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP- Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto), and Francisco Taveira Pinto, Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the FEUP, where he is responsible for the Hydraulic, Water Resources and Environment section (SHRHA- Secção de Hidráulica, Recursos Hídricos e Ambiente), will discuss water management from an environmental perspective.
The initiative is organised to sensitise the educational and student community to the importance of climate change.
“It is essential that teachers and students of Portuguese schools understand that climate changes affect several areas such as biodiversity and water, and we need to act now. These conferences, aimed at young people, are a further contribution to raising awareness of the area to this very pressing issue”, says José Azevedo, teacher and Clima@EduMedia Coordinator.
The Educational Technology Unit of the University of Porto will ensure the streaming of both events.
